Don't Wait: 4 Reasons To Get An Eye Exam

Amelia Dunn

If you haven't had an eye exam in a few years, it's time to schedule an appointment. A lot can happen to your vision in a few years. Vision changes can happen slowly. That means you might not notice a difference right away. That doesn't mean your eyes are healthy. Identify vision problems. Schedule an appointment with an optometrist right away. If you're not sure you need an eye exam, read the list below. If you're dealing with any of the issues described here, it's time for an eye exam.

You're At Risk for Eye Disease

If you're at risk for eye disease, don't postpone your eye exams. If eye disease doesn't run in your family, you might think you're safe. That's not the case though. There are other risk factors to consider. If you wear contact lenses or stare at a computer screen all day, you're at risk for eye disease. If that's the case, schedule an eye exam right away.

Your Vision has Gotten Blurry

If your vision isn't as clear as it once was, it's time for an eye exam. That's especially important if your vision has gotten blurry. But, you should also schedule an eye exam if your vision has gotten dull. For instance, colors don't seem as crisp anymore. Or pictures seem faded. Those are all signs that your vision is getting worse. Cataracts and presbyopia can both cause dull or blurry vision. That's especially true as you get older.

You're Seeing Dark Spots

If you're seeing dark spots in your field of vision, you need to see an optometrist right away. Dark spots can be solid. Or, they can float around in your field of vision. Both types of dark spots should get taken seriously. Dark spots and floaters can be a sight of retinal detachment. But, they can also be a sign of age-related macular degeneration. Both medical conditions can affect your vision if you don't get the right treatment. That's why you need to get an eye exam as soon as you see dark spots. With early detection, your optometrist can slow the progression of these vision problems.

Your Eyes are Draining

If your eyes are draining, it's a good idea to get an eye exam. There are a couple of reasons why your eyes might drain. If you wear contacts, you could have an eye infection. Or, you could have clogged tear ducts. An eye exam will identify the cause of the drainage. That way, your optometrist can start treatment.

They may not know how to follow the instructions and shy away from the interactions with the optometrist. Fortunately, I am here to help you talk your kids through the process. I would like to talk about the optometry equipment and techniques used by optometrists to check your child’s vision. I hope you will visit my site often to learn more about this interesting field. Thank you.
