Keeping Your Eyes Healthy At Work: What You Need To Know

Amelia Dunn

Keeping your eyes healthy is always going to take some work on your part, but it will take even more work when you're at your workplace. There may be hazards such as debris that can get into your eyes. To help you keep your eyes healthy while at work, read on for everything you should know.

Wear Safety Glasses

If you work around chemicals, heavy equipment, or in an area that has flying debris, you should wear safety glasses to help protect your eyes. Debris or chemicals in your eyes can cause issues such as scratches to the cornea or even blindness, if you aren't careful. Talk to your employer about what type of safety glasses you should be wearing while at work and, if you need protective eyewear, ask if they are offered at your workplace or if you have to purchase your own. Be sure you have the proper safety glasses for your job.

Know Where The Eyewash Station Is Located

In the event you get something in your eyes, be sure you know where your company's eyewash station is located. If you get a chemical in your eyes, debris flies into your eyes, or you get something else in your eyes, there should be an eyewash station to wash out your eyes. Be sure to keep your eyes open while using the eyewash station to rinse them thoroughly. Seek medical attention immediately to make sure you didn't injure your eyes and to be sure everything is out of your eyes to prevent further eye damage.

Use Your Computer Safely

Use your computer at work safely. This means changing and adjusting the settings on your computer so you can see properly. You should also make proper adjustments to reduce glare and prevent you from squinting at your screen. If you are squinting to see or hunching forward to see properly, it can cause issues with your eyes. Your vision could worsen, if you are staring at a computer screen all day long. Be sure to take breaks from the screen to give your eyes a break. Adjust your seat, the font on the screen, close blinds or curtains (to cut back on glare), move your computer altogether, and take your eyes off of the screen, from time to time, to ensure the good health of your eyes.

When you're at work, you have a job to do. But you should also be well aware of and careful with your eyes to ensure they stay healthy. If you have any eye issues, be sure to visit the ophthalmologist for a thorough eye exam.

Talking About Optometry For Kids

Hi there, I am MacKenzie. Welcome. I am happy to help you all learn how to take your kids to the optometrist. Kids are sometimes afraid of the equipment at the optometrist’s office. They may not know how to follow the instructions and shy away from the interactions with the optometrist. Fortunately, I am here to help you talk your kids through the process. I would like to talk about the optometry equipment and techniques used by optometrists to check your child’s vision. I hope you will visit my site often to learn more about this interesting field. Thank you.
