How to Protect Your Eyes When Working From Home

Amelia Dunn

While some people have worked from home for some time, more people have turned to this particular opportunity as a result of the 2020 pandemic like COVID-19. Working from home can have its advantages, but there is always a downside to the technology that we use, especially in terms of your long-term health. To protect your eye health, keep in mind the following tips as you work from home moving forward.

Keep Your Monitor in the Proper Position

Your computer monitor should always be at or just below your eye level. The distance of your monitor should be roughly arm's length. This will ensure that you are not placing any unnecessary strain on your eyes when you are using the computer.

Follow the Rule of 20-20-20

It is suggested by eye professionals that you should take a break for about 20 seconds after using your computer for 20 minutes and look at an object that is at a minimum of 20 feet away. This will provide your eyes with a much-needed rest from the digital screen, even if it is for a short time. It does more than you could ever imagine.

Adjust the Brightness and Contrast of Your Screen

If you are working in a dark room, you will want to adjust your computer screen so that it has low brightness. If you are working in a room that has a lot of light, then you need to have high brightness. If you adjust the brightness of your screen based on your surroundings, you will be able to enhance the contrast and soothe your eyes while using the computer for extended periods of time.

Minimize the Glare from the Screen

Computer screens will reflect a specific amount of light and this results in glare. You can help to minimize this glare by investing in a matt screen or an anti-glare protector.

Exercise Your Eyes

For your body to stay fit, you need to exercise your muscles. Well, for your eyes to stay fit, they also need some exercise. You can look up some helpful eye exercises online or you can reach out to your eye doctor for some of the best ones. Eye exercises will not only help relax your eyes from the strain that they endure while working on the computer, but they can also help to improve your overall vision.

Hi there, I am MacKenzie. Welcome. I am happy to help you all learn how to take your kids to the optometrist. Kids are sometimes afraid of the equipment at the optometrist’s office. They may not know how to follow the instructions and shy away from the interactions with the optometrist. Fortunately, I am here to help you talk your kids through the process. I would like to talk about the optometry equipment and techniques used by optometrists to check your child’s vision. I hope you will visit my site often to learn more about this interesting field. Thank you.
